Automation and AI
Some things on Stickerbook run on their own: checks, suggestions and the order things show up in. A few of them use Claude, an AI model made by Anthropic, and those are marked below.
Stickerbook is small. Automation does the checking a big company would hire people for, so the decisions that matter still get a person.
What runs on its own
What happens automatically when you use Stickerbook.
- SuggestionsStickerbook suggests people and stickers based on the stickers people choose.
- OrderingWhat shows first on Home and in the Sticker Shop is set automatically.
- Repeat uploadsUploads are compared so the same image can’t be uploaded twice.
- The image checkUses AIEvery sticker, background, Slap Spot photo and profile photo is checked against the Community Guidelines. More below.
- The pronoun checkUses AICustom pronouns are checked for ones made up to mock or offend.
People make the calls
Automation never suspends or bans anyone’s account. When something is reported, a person reviews it and decides what happens.
The image check
When you upload a sticker, a background, a Slap Spot photo or a profile photo, it’s checked right away.
- If it shows something the Community Guidelines don’t allow, it isn’t posted.
- If a sticker or background shows mature content, it’s marked Mature, and that can’t be switched off. Mature stickers, sticker sheets and backgrounds aren’t available to anyone under 18.
- Slap Spot photos are also checked to make sure they show a real, approved place. See the Community Guidelines for more.
Message Stickerbook Team and a person will look at it.
For creators
- Suggestions are optionalThe image check that looks for anything not allowed also describes what’s in the image, and the name, category and tag suggestions come from that description. To fill them in yourself, turn off Suggest names, categories and tags on the upload screen. The check still runs either way, and the description is saved behind the scenes for search and suggestions. It’s never shown to anyone.
- Mature stays MatureIf the check marks your upload Mature, it stays Mature. If you think it’s wrong, message Stickerbook Team.
AI-made uploads
Stickerbook is built for people, and it strongly prefers work made by people.
Right now, uploads aren’t checked for AI. Both ways of checking were looked at, and both were set aside:
- AI detectorsThey aren’t reliable, and the worst outcome would be someone’s own design flagged as AI-made.
- Checking source filesThat would mean sending creators’ layered files through AI. Artists said they wouldn’t want that, so the idea was dropped.

Why some stickers here are made with AI
Stickerbook’s founder, Austin Nevers, is a developer first, not a graphic artist. Some of the designs on Stickerbook’s own accounts, @frosty and @stickerbook, are his. Most were made with generative AI.
Stickerbook needed a lot of stickers before it had creators:
- To test the ideaTo see what a Sticker Shop, and pages full of stickers, would actually look like.
- To test everything behind the scenesPurchases, stats and everything else that has to work before creators arrive.
The plan is to remove Stickerbook’s AI-made stickers from the platform as creators add their own work.
What goes to Anthropic
For the checks marked Uses AI, Stickerbook sends Anthropic only what each one needs: the image or the pronoun being checked.
Each request also carries an account number. It means nothing outside Stickerbook, and it’s sent for one reason: child safety. If Anthropic ever flags something as a possible child-safety issue, that number is how Stickerbook finds the account so it can be reported to the right authorities.
- Anthropic doesn’t train its models on any of it.
- Anthropic deletes it within 30 days, unless it has to keep it longer by law or to enforce its own Usage Policy.
